Revival Actions in a Shooter Game

چکیده
In this paper we present an analysis of revival actions in a third person shooter video game. We observe that players who revived their teammates played significantly more sessions. They appear also to be more skilled and successful in the game in terms of kills, wins, and deaths. We then discuss how to extend our analysis methodology to other types of social play as well as other games. Author

The Effects of Loss and Latency on User Performance in Unreal Tournament
The growth in the popularity of interactive network games has increased the importance of a better understanding of the effects of packet loss and latency on user performance. While previous work on network games has studied user tolerance for high latencies and has studied the effects of latency on user performance in real-time strategy games, to the best of our knowledge, there has been no sy...

Interactive training is well suited to computer games as it allows game designers to interact with otherwise autonomous learning algorithms. This paper investigates the outcome of a group of five commercial first person shooter game designers using a custom built interactive training tool to train first person shooter bots. The designers are asked to train a bot using the tool, and then comment...

Multiplayer online first person shooter games are usually client-server based. This paper reviews networking issues and tradeoffs associated with common techniques used to discover playable game servers. ISPs, game hosting companies and private enthusiasts typically host game servers and publishers host ‘master servers’. To seek available game servers clients query the master servers for lists ...
متن کاملAdding Smart Opponents to a First-Person Shooter Video Game through Evolutionary Design
We demonstrate how a first-person shooter (FPS) video game can be made more fun and challenging by replacing the hard-wired behavior of opponents with behaviors evolved via an evolutionary algorithm. Using the opensource FPS game Cube as a platform, we replaced the agents' (opponents) hard-wired behavior with binary “DNA” supporting a much richer variety of agent responses. Survival-of-the-fitt...
متن کاملTopological Optimisation for Online First Person Shooter Game Server Discovery
Most online first person shooter (FPS) games require clients to discover game servers through a two-step process. The client initially queries a well-known master server for a list of currently registered game servers. Each game server is then probed in the order they were returned by the master server. It may take quite some time to discover playable game servers (within a tolerable round trip...
